Explanation of the IIoT & Blockchain Scenario (15 minutes)
- In this phase provide a concise explanation of a scenario students will be working in the following modules and sessions. ⇒ using slides (4.1-scenario_explanation.pptx)
- Explain to the students that they are the owners of a 3D printer that is enhanced with a microcomputer, enabling internet connectivity and facilitating the Internet of Industrial Things (IIoT).
- In this scenario, they want to provide a 3D printing service to customers, limited to three distinct product types. Customers have the ability to place orders for any of these products through an online platform.
- Highlight that due to the concerns regarding reliance on centralized payment channels, the service incorporates blockchain technology, offering payment options through smart contracts. It's crucial to inform
students that the 3D printer is connected to the blockchain network via a smart contract. The printer is programmed to respond automatically to changes recorded in the smart contract's data.
- The primary goal is to develop a system that facilitates a specific sequence of actions: once a customer completes the purchase of a designated product through the creation of a transaction, which in turn
alters the state of the smart contract, the 3D printer is activated to manufacture the product. It is important to note that this system intentionally disregards the elements related to the supply chain.
Emphasize that the main task is to implement such a system
comprehensively in the subsequent course modules.
