Building Networks for the Future of Virtual Learning in Galicia
On 11 March, CESGA welcomed a group of educational technology experts from the Faculties of Education of the Galician University System (SUG). The goal was twofold: to open our doors and showcase the technological engine driving virtual learning in Galicia, and — most importantly — to listen to those who are training tomorrow’s educators.
Exploring CESGA’s Virtual Learning Ecosystem
During the working session, participants were able to get a first-hand look at the current initiatives and projects we are leading in the field of virtual learning. The key highlights of the day included:
- Infrastructure and Platforms: A review of high-availability virtual learning and collaboration tools.
- Innovation Projects: A presentation of the latest initiatives we are involved in, particularly the WrAIte, Radiography4Future and AI Act(ing) projects, as well as our lines of work, tools and methodologies applied to online and in-person learning.
- Services for the Galician University System: A review of the technological resources the centre makes available to Galician universities and research groups.
In Search of Synergies and Strategic Collaborations
Beyond a technical visit, the meeting solidified into a space for strategic reflection. The convergence between CESGA’s computational and technical capabilities and the pedagogical and didactic knowledge of GUS faculty is the fertile ground where future projects should take root.
The main areas of collaboration identified were:
- Joint research: Exploring potential joint initiatives within the framework of national or European research projects.
- Train-the-trainer programmes: Collaborating on training activities arising from the different participating institutions in the field of technology and learning.
- Knowledge transfer: Ensuring that technological innovations effectively reach educational design and teaching practice through joint actions, curricular placements, researcher training, participation in conferences and other initiatives.
A Commitment to Galician Education
This meeting reaffirms CESGA’s role not only as a supercomputing centre, but also as an essential hub for educational innovation. We firmly believe that collaboration between institutions is key to positioning Galicia’s virtual learning at the international forefront.
We would like to thank all the experts for their participation and their constructive perspectives, and we look forward to future working sessions at the three universities as a first step along a shared path towards a more inclusive, efficient and transformative digital education.
